FARMINGTON, CT (July 10, 2018) – On Wednesday, July 18, ConnectiCare and the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter will kick off a monthly support group for families, friends, and caregivers of those who suffer from dementia and memory-related illnesses.
The meetings will take place from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month: July 18, August 15, September 19, and October 17. They will be held at the ConnectiCare Center in Manchester, located at 1487 Pleasant Valley Road.
“Caregiving takes an exceptional amount of time, commitment, and personal sacrifice,” said Dr. Wayne Rawlins, ConnectiCare’s Chief Medical Officer. “We are excited to offer this resource to people from the Greater Manchester and Hartford communities and hope that it becomes a beneficial outlet for those who need it.”
Led by a trained facilitator from the Alzheimer’s Association, these meetings will allow caregivers to:
- Develop a support system
- Exchange practical information on caregiving challenges and possible solutions
- Talk through issues and ways of coping
- Share feelings, needs, and concerns
- Learn about community resources
The caregiver support group is free of charge and open to the public. Registration is not required but recommended. Spots can be secured by calling the ConnectiCare Center at 1-877-523-6837 or visiting the Center’s website at www.visitconnecticare.com/events
