GROTON, CT (June 23, 2020) – In collaboration with the Travelers Championship and through the generosity of ConnectiCare®, the non-profit Operation Shower will host a special drive-through baby shower for 40 military moms- to-be on Tuesday, June 23, from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm at the United States Navy Submarine Force Library & Museum on the Thames River in Groton. All of the moms are the spouses of deployed members of Naval Submarine Base New London, or in some cases, are active duty themselves.
Known for its elaborately-designed in-person showers, Operation Shower is partnering with ConnectiCare and Travelers to create a unique way to celebrate the expectant moms while ensuring their health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. The in-person shower will be replaced by a drive-through event that adheres to state and local health department safety guidelines and social distancing protocols. During the event, all of the moms will be showered with gifts – including Operation Shower’s signature “Showers In A Box.” Each mom will receive an array of unique, high-quality products and gift items for mothers and babies that have been donated by companies including ConnectiCare, Travelers, EvenFlo, Wubbanub and Playtex.
“For military moms who are expecting a baby and whose spouses are deployed or soon to be deployed, the impending arrival of a child can be both exciting and stressful in the best of circumstances. Compounding these challenges are the isolation and uncertainty caused by the coronavirus, which puts expectant moms at a disproportionate risk. For this reason, we felt it was especially important to continue our tradition of showering these moms in a safe manner to let them know how much we appreciate everything they do on behalf of our country,” said Operation Shower Founder and Chief Shower Officer LeAnn Morrissey.
“Since 2014, ConnectiCare has been committed to bringing Operation Shower events to expectant moms.
Even during these uncertain times, we remain committed to finding a safe way to host the event,” said ConnectiCare President Eric Galvin. “Their service and sacrifice deserve to be recognized, and ConnectiCare is proud to be celebrating them in such an innovative way during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The Travelers Championship will take place June 25-28 at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. For more information, visit www.TravelersChampionship.com.
