FARMINGTON, CT- September 20, 2023- In partnership with the CT Cycling Advancement Program (CCAP), ConnectiCare, a leading health plan in Connecticut, recently hosted its sixth annual Gran Fondo cycling event in Madison, CT. The event took place during the New Haven Grand Prix weekend and features three scenic rides with lengths of 17, 38, 62 miles beginning and ending in Hammonassett Beach State Park.
ConnectiCare started the inaugural Gran Fondo event in 2018 in honor of Gordon Keller, a local triathlete and former ConnectiCare employee who lost his life while on a training ride in 2017. The annual event continues to grow popularity. This year, the Gran Fondo attracted over 150 riders and eight men’s teams participating in the CCNS Team Time Trial.
“As a Connecticut-based health plan, ConnectiCare is dedicated to improving the health of the communities where we live and work,’ said Mark Meador, President of ConnectiCare. “Our annual Gran Fondo encourages people of all ages to get outside, be active, and enjoy the benefits of being with others in one of our beautiful state parks. We thank CCAP for their partnership and are thankful for the opportunity to provide this resource and honor our former team member Gordon, through the sport of cycling.”
“We are grateful for our continued partnership with ConnectiCare which shares our passion for providing the state’s youth with access and exposure to the sport of cycling,” said Executive Director of CCAP, Brian Wolfe. “Cycling teaches numerous values and social skills and helps foster a positive mindset. CCAP is proud of our work to create opportunities for kids to take part in a fun, safe, team-based sport that also acts as a tool to improve physical and mental health.”
